Objectives of the action

Over all objectives:

The overall objective is to improve the socio-economic condition of the targeted beneficiaries, and to contribute to poverty alleviation in particular for the rural population in south west Afghanistan.

 

Specific Objective:

The specific objective of the project is to improve horticulture products and fruit markets in Kandahar and Zabul Provinces

Estimated results

An effective and operational cooperation mechanizim in line with the objectives of MAI is in place.

Eight Demonstration Orchards (DO) are operational and facilitated as focal resource for extension services and technical assistance to farmers.

Four Nucleus Nurseries (NN) produce sufficient fruit trees to meet the demand of the fruit market and private sectors.

 Four fruit grower cooperatives are established to support fruit-growers in the target areas.

  One Trade Association unit is established to facilitate fruit marketing.

Two centres provided technical assistance on effective and efficient irrigation techniques to the fruit-growers.

Two centres provided improved horticulture inputs and technical assistance to fruit growers and other stakeholders.
